1. We Will Rock You

2. Legally Blonde

3. Apollo Victoria 80th Birthday Gala

4. Simply The Music Of Scott Alan

5. Wicked (BradDeejMan)

6. Wicked (MeadDeejMan)

7. Sister Act

8. Oliver!

9. Wicked (BradTuckMan)

10. Wicked (TompPilkKhad)

Who was the best performer in number one?

Sarah French (Scaramouche)

Why did you go to see number two?

I took a friend for her 21st, she chose the musical…we both LOVED it!

Can you remember a line/lyric from number three that you liked?

“There’s a light at the end of the tunnel” – Starlight back on the Apollo Victoria Stage.  Also when Ashleigh Gray and Oli Tompsett came onto the stage…I couldn’t control the noises that came out of my mouth!!

What would you give number four out of ten?

11

Was there someone hot in number five?

Danny Mac was Boq!!

What was number six about?

Prejudices.  Society judges the main character by how she looks, not how she is.  It’s a great story for teenage girls, all about self esteem and being true to yourself no matter what or whogets in your way.

Who was your favorite actor/actress in number seven?

Patina Miller was amazing!

What was your favorite bit in number eight?

The whole show was absolutely amazing…one of my favourites EVER.  Meeting Kerry Ellis afterwards was incredible!!

Would you see number nine again?

Most certainly…many times over!

What was the worst thing about number ten?

It wasn’t Ashleigh Gray as Elphaba.  Also saying goodbye to Ashleigh and Oli T. Veeerry sad times.

Which was best?

Oliver!

Which was worst?

I didn’t enjoy Sister Act as much as all the others but it was still fantastic!

Did any make you cry?

Deej’s Defying Gravity eveeeery time!!

Did any make you laugh?

We Will Rock You, Legally Blonde, Sister Act and Wicked were all hilarious.  Also Russ Abott as Fagin was AMAZING!!

Which roles would you like to play in any of them?

I’d love to give Elphaba a shot and I’d also love to be Elle for a day.  The songs in Legally Blonde are more in my range!

Which one did you have best seats for?

Number 5 Wicked…Front Row, Glinda Side!

I’ve tagged people on Facebook but I’d also love to see yours…so either do it in the comment section below or link it to your FB/twitter in the comments!

Wizard of Oz to take over at London Palladium

As all you theatre fans will know the revival of The Wizard of Oz is due to be coming soon to the West End and now it has been confirmed that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s forthcoming show will take over from Sister Act at the London Palladium Theatre in March 2011.

No doubt if you’re a big fan of musicals you will have also followed the BBC show Over the Rainbow which found the best Dorothy and Toto to star in the new production.

The winner of the TV talent show will go on to tread the boards at the Palladium Theatre and the show is due to open on the 29th March 2011.
The competition was eventually won by Danielle Hope, 18, who stunned TV audiences with perfomances of Mambo Italiano and On My Own from Les Miserables.
The current show at the London Palladium, Sister Act the musical, will have its last performance on the 1st January 2011 in order to make way for the setup of The Wizard of Oz.

The Wizard of Oz will be a production of the L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was made into a film in 1939 starring Judy Garland and has proved to be a massive family favourite so, no doubt the stage adaptation will go down a treat with audiences in the West End.

You can get your tickets from Londontheatre.com and read more about the show online.

Sister Act The Musical

Well let’s face facts…Sister Act The Musical is closing in early 2011 to make way for The Wizard Of Oz starring Danielle Hope from Over The Rainbow.  I booked tickets for May 29th because I heard it was Cast Change and that Sheila ‘I’m a legend’ Hancock was leaving.  Having enjoyed Wicked London Cast Change so much I specifically wanted to see the energy of another one!  As it turns out, Sheila extended her run due to her popularity on Over The Rainbow however it was still a minor cast change as some of the nuns and men were leaving.

I have heard only great things about Sister Act The Musical and so, if I’m honest, my standards were high.  However, I was so, so disappointed when the show started and the theatre was only half full, with the Second Tier Balcony (where we were sitting, can’t remember its official name) only a third full.  My standards suddenly dropped….if people aren’t coming to see the show, it can’t be very good.

How wrong I was!!

The show was absolutely fantastic!! The set was unbelievable – yes, literally – I could not believe what was happening before my eyes! The costumes are brill, the songs are catchy and diverse in style.  There is tonnes of comedy, a bit of flirting, lots of laughs and loads of fun!  Patina was FAB in the role and Sheila, with her talk-singing, really captured a different Madame Superior to Dame Maggie Smith.  This leads me nicely onto my next point…

Like anything that is adapted, if you arrive expecting it to be identical to its predecessor you will be disappointed.  Like with any musical/show/film/book/production, I treated it as completely separate and I LOVED it.  It is almost a completely different piece of art, only the bare bones of the story remain.  The production is much more raunchy than the film and no songs were carried forward from the film so no renditions of My Guy/My God.  But, rest assured, the production is 100% worth seeing.

I think, perhaps, that is why it has not done as well as expected…people are expecting to see the multi award winning film on stage.  Personally, I would much rather see an altered performance with surprises and adjustments to keep the show fresh for audiences who will have, inevitably, seen the film.

Do go and support this show, let me know what you think and make sure you book before it’s too late!
