Rent The Musical – Liverpool

11 Mar 2010 by hobo, 1 Comment »

Well, I watched the movie of Rent for the first time only a few months ago on Musical Day – the day when, before gospel choir, everyone came over and watched musicals!  It wasn’t what I normally expect from a musical but every now and again it is refreshing to watch something that isn’t all flowers and pretty, happy songs!  I LOVED the movie and haven’t yet seen it on stage.

RENT is a rock opera with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera, La Boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS. It tells the unforgettable story of a group of young artists learning to survive, falling in love, finding their voices and living for today.

What We Did Next is the first theatre company to be granted the rights to present the full stage version of Jonathan Larson’s hit musical, RENT to Merseyside.

But here is my, and your, chance to see the musical in the media that it was created for.  Liverpool based Musical Theatre group called What We Did Next are putting on a production of Rent from the 22nd- 24th April 2010.  Performances will be at the Black-E in Liverpool (by the Chinese Arch).  Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.  Tickets can be purchased at the door or by clicking here.    Tickets are £10 / £8 concessions and seating is general admission.

Do  book early to avoid disappointment.

Visit WWDN.co.uk for more information about the group, musical, performances or charities involved!  If you are up in that area, do go and support this incredible group performing an important production.
