It has been a very long time coming, personally I have waited 18 months for this, but, during a girly holiday in Cornwall, Kerry Ellis’ album, Anthems, arrived through my letterbox.  I think the girls I was holidaying with would agree that I could not retain my excitement.  As soon as I arrived home, the signed CD from Play.com was in the ghettoblaster filling my house with anthemic noise.

The album has 11 tracks, 3 of which featured on Kerry’s EP, Wicked In Rock.  Most of the other tracks have been performed by Kerry throughout her career however there is one fantastic original song.  You Can’t Be My Friend is written by Brian May (who also produced the album) and Don Black (of ‘diamonds are forever’ and Starlight Express fame).  There is also a new version of Diamonds Are Forever, an incredible rendition of You Have To Be There, a funky I Love It When You Call and the powerhouses of Anthem and Dangerland!

Kerry released a single version of ‘I’m Not That Girl’ on the 6th of September and the album was released on the 13th.  The album charted at number 15 on the official album charts the following sunday!

As an avid Kerry fan, I have heard her sing many of these songs before but I cannot express how glad I am that I now have studio recordings of these songs on one amazing album.  If, like me, you have followed Kerry’s every move for a few years, be prepared to not hear much new material.  If you have not heard of Kerry or are not particularly familiar with her and her music, this is an absolute must buy.  Full of power ballads, I guarantee it will be on repeat for weeks!
